A 25-year-old painter passionately portrays his muse, a young woman with severe facial burns, in his apartment-studio. She is moved by the admiration she has never known. Over several days, the painting nears completion. When she returns after reconstructive surgery, transformed and radiant, the painter freezes. Unable to reconcile her new face with the one he loved to paint, he drops his brush and leaves. Alone, the muse tries to erase her former scars from the canvas. The painting, trapped between two identities, bursts into flames. Fade to black.
